The aim of the Biotechnology Master’s degree programme is to prepare students for advanced and independent understanding and interpretation of various biological phenomena, which are related with plant and microorganism biotechnology. Master’s thesis are based on a research project related to scientific profile of a department chosen by a student within the specialisation. Under tutor’s supervision the student improves his/her skills – posing scientific questions and finding solutions to various problems linked with biotechnology of plants and environmental biotechnology, hence actively participates in the development of science.
The graduates in Plant Biotechnology acquire reliable and up-to-date knowledge of molecular basis of biotechnological processes, supporting the methods of plant production for modern agriculture and other industries (e.g. food, manufacturing and pharmaceutical industry). Practical, specialised skills of the alumnus, supported by the essential theoretical knowledge are linked to the use of advanced equipment of the biotechnology laboratories as well as both basic and advanced techniques used in plant biotechnology. The alumni of the specialisation Biotechnology of Plants possesses both the knowledge and the skills that enable them to get a job in the widely understood sector of the modern agriculture and food production.
The graduates in Environmental Biotechnology are in both theoretical and practical terms well prepared to implement modern technologies to learn and shape various biotechnological processes in various environments. Skills obtained by students specialising in Environmental biotechnology enable them to find employment in analytical and diagnostic laboratories and R&D facilities that deal with environmental biotechnology, molecular diagnostic of microbial materials, sewerage cleaning, solid waste processing, and soil bioremediation, and in other sectors of the economy in which the ability to use biotechnological methods and work.
