    The Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at the University of Minnesota will prepare you for a rewarding career in nursing and provide you with a strong foundation for a wide range of professional nursing opportunities.     The School of Nursing was founded in 1909 as the nation’s first continuously operated university-based school of nursing. The School offered a three-year program in which four students were enrolled. In 1919, a five-year program leading to a baccalaureate degree in nursing began. The shorter nondegree program continued until 1947.

    The school celebrated 100 years of leading nursing and health innovation in 2009.

    USA requirements for international students

    Each university in the Unites States of America sets its own admission standards so there isn't the same criteria for all the students and the university can decide which applicants meet those standards. The fee for each application is between $35 to $100. 

    After the selections of the universities you want to attend, the best of all would be to contact each university for an application form and more admission information for the international students. Moreover, for a graduate or postgraduate program it's necessary to verify the admission requirements. Some programs require that you send your application directly to their department. 

    Admissions decisions are based on students's academic record and different test scores, such as TOEFL, the SAT or ACT (for undergraduate programs) and GRE or GMAT (for graduate programs). Admission decision is based on your academic results and motivation.

    Prerequisite Courses
    To be considered, applicants must, at the time of application:

    • Have a minimum of 1 biological or physical science course completed at time for an A-F grade. Biological or physical
    • science courses are defined as biology or chemistry for Twin Cities applicants and biology, chemistry or anatomy & physiology I for Rochester applicants only
    • Have completed or have in progress a minimum of 5 of the college-level/college credit prerequisites listed in the application with the ability to complete all 6 prerequisites (7 prerequisites for Rochester applicants) before entering the program in September.
    • At least 5 of the prerequisite courses completed or in progress must be taken for an A-F grade (1 can be pass/fail)
    • All prerequisite courses completed with a grade of C- or better
    GPA Requirements
    • Have a minimum cumulative college GPA of 3.0 (based on a 4.0 scale)
    • Have a minimum cumulative prerequisite GPA of 3.0 (based on a 4.0 scale) with at least 5 courses – completed or in progress – taken for a letter grade.
    • Applicants with fewer than 26 college semester credits completed at the time of application will also be evaluated on the following: Preferred minimum high school GPA of 3.4 (based on a 4.0 scale) and Average ACT score of 27.6 or SAT score of 1897

    Funding

    University scholarship awards disburse in accordance with the University's financial aid award policy. Consistent with University policy, the total annual aid amount awarded to a student, including all scholarships and grants, cannot exceed cost of attendance at the University of Minnesota. Many campus-wide scholarships are awarded to incoming freshman or transfer students. Others are set aside specifically to fund particular activities.

    The baccalaureate degree in nursing at the University of Minnesota is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
